This auction draws its inspiration from the Dutch model. Two auctions are held at the sprawling Flower Market warehouse every week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays – the days when the fresh arrivals come in (even more often during peak periods like Easter and Mother’s Day … consult our calendar!).
Buying flowers at Flower Market, nicknamed “The clock”, is a wonderful experience. It’s simple and it’s fast!
- At dawn, producers deliver their plants directly from their greenhouses.
- You can watch the products arrive and examine the merchandise.
- The auction starts at 6:30 a.m. sharp!
- You will be assigned a desk with an electronic keyboard (see diagram) in order to place your bids.
- The merchandise is presented by the piece, and the starting price is displayed on a giant screen.
- The price drops until a bidder steps forward, or until the minimum price is reached.
- The basic rule: you have complete control of your purchases. You press the button for one lot, you buy the lot.
- There are sometimes as many as 2,000 transactions per hour!
- All of your purchases (auction or pre-sale) are combined at the warehouse in order to facilitate loading.
- You are on your way before 9:00 a.m., ready to start your day fresh!
